So as some of you may well know, I made the tough decision a couple months ago to drop out of University and not partake in a Masters. It was a very big decision but I knew that I wasn’t 100% about doing it and didn’t want to go through it just for the sake of it. Since that time I’ve had a handful of interviews and opportunities, some that have been truly wonderful and exciting, and others…… well, not so much. I have found it so difficult in the past couple months to find the right fit for me and to pick somewhere I would be happy to work – day in day out.
I think looking back I was quite naive in a way and just assumed that I would find a job asap. How wrong I was. It was such a good learning curve because now I am more confident talking to new people, bigging myself up a bit to people I’ve just met (is bigging a word?) and being able to be proud and confident with myself and my accomplishments. I even went to two interviews in one day!!!
I am so proud of myself and how far I’ve come. If you’d asked me where I would be in October 2017 6 months ago, I would’ve told you that I was staying in Egham and doing a masters in Geopolitics and Security. It took me 3 months to accept my place because I was too scared. I kept making excuses as to why I couldn’t accept it yet. I think deep down I knew that it wasn’t the right choice, but I’m so glad I went with my gut and I’m now getting ready to enter the world of work in an industry I am so fascinated by!
The specifics – well if I knew them all I’d tell you but for the moment I will give you a few little tidbits. My role is a German speaking one, based out of London. Farringdon to be exact. I will be working at a Media Advertising Company as a Graduate Media Executive and I am sooooo excited! Didn’t think I’d end up here but somehow I have and I can’t believe it. I get to work in an incredible city, with some lovely people and in an industry that fascinates me to no end. I am lucky in that sense, but I couldn’t have done it without the support of my friends and family, but also Inspiring Interns. If any of you are a recent graduate, looking for a job, I highly recommend you give them a try. As soon as I was invited in to record my Video CV, I was inundated with interview offers and job opportunities. In the end I had the pick of two fantastic jobs, but at the end of the day I had too look at how each one would set me up for the future and how my career path would be shaped by the job that I start off in.
I’m overly excited and I can’t wait to share more with you!! Sorry for the different kind of blog post today, I just had to tell you all the news!
